Poll: Haines Only Democrat Leading Burns

Recently, our campaign commissioned a survey of the voters in the 12th District. We were very excited about the results, and we hope you will be too. Here's the press release!

Athens – March 10, 2004 – A new poll released by Doug Haines’ Congressional campaign reveals that Max Burns (R-GA) is extremely vulnerable and could easily lose his seat to Democratic challenger Doug Haines in November. The poll, commissioned by the Haines campaign in early February, surveyed voters throughout the 12th Congressional District and was conducted by Cooper and Secrest Associates, a polling firm located in Washington, DC.

The survey shows that former State Senator Doug Haines of Athens holds a commanding lead (51% to 37%) over Burns in the 12th District. Of the candidates, Haines is the only contender who leads Burns.

In the four-way Democratic Primary, the poll indicates that three of the four challengers are statistically tied. However, in a two-way matchup between the two leading candidates, Haines and Athens-Clarke County Commissioner John Barrow, Haines leads Barrow by 8%.

Alan Secrest, president of Cooper and Secrest Associates summed up the survey’s findings. “A talented and progressive Democrat with Doug Haines’ background and experience will take out this placeholder incumbent, Max Burns, and hold this seat for Democrats for years to come.”

Cooper and Secrest Associates has surveyed voters for candidates across the country. In Georgia, they have worked for many candidates, including: Sam Nunn, John Lewis, Denise Majette, and Thurbert Baker.

You will win this district win pigs fly

I haven't seen any pigs flying lately, but I have seen the news reports showing Doug Haines as the only candidate in the 12th district that defeats Rep. Max Burns. This seat is too important to waste on a nominee with lots of money, but no ability to win in November. Chump had a fortune, but couldn't win. I fear the same thing will happen to Barrow. The Commissioner has high negatives in Clarke County and will come across poorly in the rest of the dist. We need a representative, not a member of the aristocracy.

I'm assuming that the "Doug" above isn't Doug Haines.
And that really should be "...WHEN pigs fly," not "...win pigs fly."

Just a thought. If you're gonna criticize, at least use some form of recognizable grammar and syntax.

Peace!

I wanted to clarify quickly. The "Doug" posting above is not Doug Haines.

About the poll: We are very excited about the results. As mentioned above, Cooper and Secrest is one of the best firms in the business, and we're glad to have them working with us.
Here's what the numbers tell us. Doug is the best candidate to beat Max Burns. But, without the help of people like you, we won't be able to get our message out to the voters.
We've got the right candidate and the right message. And we are taking our message to the people. In late February, we hit the streets for the first time, canvassing in Athens with over twenty volunteers. Last weekend we did the same in Savannah.
If you live in or near the 12th District, please sign up to volunteer for Doug. This is going to be a real grassroots movement, and we need your help. If you don't live nearby, please consider a contribution that we can use for more literature to hand out, water for our canvassers, and snacks and pizza for our phone bankers.
We've got a great cause and a great candidate. I appreciate everything that everyone here has already done for Doug, and I look forward to seeing even more participation on the blog.

Mike,

Please, please stop the bright flashing ads on the blogs. If it's flashing make it slow and less bright. If it's bright, please don't have it flash.

Thanks

We noticed that too and are going to slow the flashing down considerably. Thanks for giving us the heads up!

Beware Alan Secrest - he'll keep you in the race just to fatten his own wallet!

So far, Alan and his staff have been very good to us. They're very accessible and willing to take the time necessary to keep a client informed.
We're a fan. We're staying in the race because Doug can win.
